Wetumpka honors department promotions; Lieutenant Matthew Calhoun named patrol commander

"Promotion in law enforcement is never automatic," David said in remarks that framed advancement as earned through "consistent performance, sound judgment under pressure, and unwavering commitment to the city we serve." He added that promotions bring "increased accountability" and that promoted officers will be looked to for leadership and example.
David announced Lieutenant Matthew Calhoun as the patrol division commander and turned the ceremony over to him. Lieutenant Calhoun introduced the corporals recognized at the event: Corporal Sheldon Davis; Corporal Tyler Lamar; (transcript text: "Corporal medicine status" and "For for old Jory Wiley," phrasing unclear); Corporal Steven McElpin; and Corporal William Reed. David also noted that Corporal William Smith could not attend because of training but was recognized at the ceremony.
Organizers invited the officers and their families to pose for group and family photographs in the foyer. The ceremony concluded with a reminder that the council meeting was scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
The event was ceremonial and did not record any formal votes or policy actions.
