Finance committee approves Mundy Park MOU, accepts $360,000 PPE donation and authorizes farmers market grant

The Aurora Finance Committee on Jan. 29 approved three agenda items by unanimous vote.

The committee approved item 26‑0017, a memorandum of understanding with the Fox Valley Music Foundation that gives the Foundation first right to use Mundy Park for scheduled outdoor concerts and events during the 2026 calendar year. Mike Nelson, the city’s events director, said the Foundation provides “great usage of the property” and that the city coordinates dates so unused park dates remain available for public special‑event permits. The committee approved the MOU by voice vote, 5‑0.

The committee also approved item 26‑0018, accepting a donation from 10 O'Mations valued at $360,000 in personal protective equipment. Chief of staff Shannon Cameron said the donation includes face shields, masks, hand sanitizer and gloves; items are stored at Central Garage and will be distributed to the city’s temporary warming center, emergency management and local nonprofits that request assistance. The motion to accept the donation carried 5‑0.

Finally, the committee approved item 26‑0054 to accept a Link Up Illinois double‑value match grant for the 2026 Aurora Farmers Market season. Nelson said the grant amplifies SNAP/EBT purchasing power at both the West and East market locations and that tentative midweek West‑market dates run from the first Wednesday in July through the first Wednesday in September (about 10 weeks). The committee discussed East Side locations staff is still scouting and approved the grant 5‑0.
