District updates: midyear goals, superintendent search, technology and curriculum pilots

At its Dec. 17 meeting the Hendrick Hudson Board of Education received midyear updates from the superintendent and cabinet on strategic goals, personnel searches, technology infrastructure and curriculum pilots.
Superintendent and administrators summarized progress on board and district goals tied to the 2027 strategic plan, including a district requirement that each department use a Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to expand differentiated instruction. Trustees described an advocacy task force that has already drafted a letter and an accompanying info sheet and said they plan to continue community meet‑and‑greets and ThoughtExchange feedback during budget season.
Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership Development said stakeholder groups have identified desired qualities for the next superintendent: deep understanding of standards, strong data and instructional leadership, experience with diverse learners and at least a decade of classroom experience; about 80 candidates were reported in the applicant pool. He also said a K–12 director of physical education, health and athletics posting is planned for Jan. 6.
The district’s technology director reported K–5 coding work in multiple schools and said the district is moving to a Lyric wide‑area network; wired failover between the high school and middle school is complete, wireless failover work remains in progress, and the ambition server migration to BOCES is expected around February. The technology office is planning a STEAM Innovation Day on March 29 (9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.) and moving the help‑desk from Mojo to ServiceNow through BOCES-managed IT.
The executive director for curriculum noted professional development on an AI reading assistant called Amira and described continued work on co‑teaching, vocabulary development and course‑catalog scheduling; high‑school arts faculty intend to file for an Individual Arts Assessment pathway when the application window opens in February.
Interim Assistant Superintendent for Business reported department budget meetings, near‑final audit work and that the district is preparing the NYSED transparency report due Dec. 31, which breaks down expenditures by location for public review.
The board asked for further detail on the independent educational evaluation process and hearing‑officer procedures for special‑education matters; administrators said they will provide step‑by‑step materials on the district website and in future updates.
