Newberg Police Department awarded accreditation by Northwest Accreditation Alliance

Chief Jeff Kosmicki introduced the Newberg Police Department’s accreditation award from the Northwest Accreditation Alliance at the Feb. 2 council meeting. Scott Hayes, executive director of the Northwest Accreditation Alliance, presented remotely and said accreditation required adherence to 110 law‑enforcement standards and a demonstration of proof of compliance with policies, Oregon law and administrative rules.
Hayes said accreditation supports improved accountability, transparency and professional standards. The department and staff were praised for their work preparing for the assessment; Sergeant Ronning was acknowledged as the accreditation manager who coordinated the process.
Chief Kosmicki said maintaining accreditation provides independent verification of the department’s policies and practices and noted benefits such as reduced civil‑liability exposure, potential insurance premium reductions and enhanced service to residents. The council received the presentation and offered thanks to department staff.
