Cole County approves 40 mph on Wildwood Drive and installs stop sign at Frog Hollow intersection

The Cole County Commission held a public hearing Feb. 3 on traffic-control items for Wildwood Drive and Frog Hollow Drive and approved two traffic orders.
Staff presented traffic-speed study results supporting a 40 mph limit on the new stretch of Wildwood Drive; 85th-percentile speeds recorded in study locations ranged roughly from the high 30s to low 40s mph. The Traffic & Safety Advisory Board recommended a 40 mph limit and the commission voted to accept that recommendation and to sign the required court order.
The commission also accepted the board’s recommendation to install and approve a stop sign at the new T-intersection of Frog Hollow Road and Wildwood Drive. Staff said the intersection meets guidance for placing a stop sign where a lower-classification road meets a higher-classification road (condition C in the traffic safety manual) and that the sign is already installed. The commission approved the court order approving the stop sign.
Both items were approved on voice votes. Commissioners discussed sight distance and localized traffic impacts and noted the Wildwood project is partly within Jefferson City limits, where the city is running the same process for its portion of the roadway.
