Gloversville superintendent touts school improvements, sets Feb. 2 capital project kickoff

The superintendent of the Gloversville City School District delivered a state-of-the-district update, reviewed recent donations and retirements and set a Feb. 2 kickoff meeting for a pending capital project.

In remarks to the board, the superintendent thanked donors including the Covey Fayetteville Memorial Foundation and community businesses that provided winter clothing, and announced two staff retirements effective in 2026. He also recounted a revived faculty basketball fundraiser that raised about $3,400 for school programs.

The superintendent described a series of facilities problems this winter — a septic backup, two BOCES staff and students briefly trapped in an elevator, and a minor roof leak — and said the district has billed BOCES $6,700 related to the septic cleanup. He said non-flushable wipes were the likely cause of the backup and thanked local first responders and Otis for the elevator repair. "It was a rare failure, and, glad everybody's okay," the superintendent said.

The district plans to circulate a shorter version of its larger state-of-the-district report to the community. The superintendent said he would explore automated tools to help condense the document for broader readership. He also told the board he expects to begin negotiations with the CSCA in February and asked for board members who wish to participate in negotiations to notify him.

The capital project kickoff is scheduled for Feb. 2 at 9 a.m.; the superintendent invited interested board members to attend. The board took no executive session on personnel or labor matters that night and moved on without additional action.
