Eagle Pass council backs countywide polling-place application to expand election-day sites

The Eagle Pass City Council unanimously approved a resolution supporting and requesting that the Maverick County Commissioners Court apply for a countywide polling-place program, which would allow multiple election-day voting sites and let voters cast ballots at any participating location on Election Day.
Community Transformation Alliance representative Lehi Reyes Diaz addressed the council in favor of the resolution, saying the program would eliminate precinct-day confusion and help boost turnout. Council discussed amending the resolution’s wording to clarify the county application was intended for 2027 and future elections; the mayor amended his motion to reflect ongoing application and the council approved the amended motion unanimously.
Council members said the change would reduce barriers on election day and staff will coordinate with county officials as the county prepares an application to the state.
