Sayville board honors trustee Maureen Dolan and recognizes staff, students

The Sayville Union Free School District Board of Education on June 3 recognized trustee Maureen Dolan for 30 years of service, reading a formal resolution and presenting the SABOR Service Award in acknowledgment of Dolan’s long-term advocacy for special education, inclusion, world language instruction and STEAM initiatives.
Board members described Dolan as a steady, student-focused presence whose questions and guidance over three decades shaped district programs. An unnamed board speaker said Dolan’s service was driven by ‘‘the children of our community,’’ and the board instructed the district clerk to place the resolution in the meeting minutes as a public record.
The board also honored staff members and students. Keith Ferrosa, introduced as head of the district’s food nutrition program, presented a recognition for Tina Murad, who joined the food-service team in 2018 and rose to lead cook at the middle school; Murad was credited with developing a student work-experience program that a participant will continue in culinary studies.
Principal remarks and prepared citations recognized multiple student achievements: three Girl Scouts earned Gold Awards for community projects; members of the robotics team were honored for contributions to the 2025 FIRST robotics season; and the high school announced its Class of 2025 salutatorian, Taylor Carpentieri, and valedictorian, Joya Racinelli, with summaries of their academic and extracurricular records and college plans. Athletic accomplishments and more than 30 college commitments were noted by the athletic director, who joined the meeting by livestream and presented citations to championship teams.
The recognitions concluded with the board thanking PTAs and staff for volunteerism and noting upcoming district events, including moving-up ceremonies and high-school commencement in late June.
The board’s recognitions were ceremonial; no formal policy actions were taken on the awards themselves. The board placed the resolution honoring Maureen Dolan into the public record and scheduled follow-ups for routine business items.
