Wetumpka council carries first reading of rezoning, releases developer mortgage and OKs stadium use

At its regular meeting the Wetumpka City Council took several routine but formal actions: it carried a first reading of a rezoning ordinance (Owens 2024), approved a mortgage release for RTJ Wing Tuffton LLC, and granted Prattville High School permission to use Lejumper Stadium for three practice days.

Unidentified Speaker 3 read the full ordinance amendment to Zoning Ordinance No. 99-4, describing a 5.92-acre parcel in the northeast quarter of the southeast quarter of Section 14 to be rezoned from B-2 to R-3. The ordinance was presented as a first reading and will be carried over for subsequent action. Speaker 5 explained the rezoning corrects an existing duplex that was left under B-2 zoning; "our B 2 zoning doesn't allow duplexes... It needs to be R 3 in order for him to be able to refinance," the speaker said.

The council also approved allowing the mayor to sign and release a mortgage for RTJ Wing Tuffton LLC after staff noted the developer had fulfilled obligations tied to the mortgage security. Councilors moved, seconded and approved the action by voice vote.

Finally, the council approved Prattville High School's request to use Lejumper Stadium for three practice days; corrected dates were included in the council packet, and members voted to allow the use.
