Haley Green, executive director of Main Street, told the Wetumpka City Council that four new businesses have opened downtown in the past two months, another business will open soon, and five events are planned through the end of the year.
"We have 4 new businesses that have opened downtown within the last 2 months and we have...1 that's opening very soon," Green said, thanking the mayor and council for their support. Council members expressed appreciation for the downtown activity and for Main Street's role in promoting local commerce.
Later in the meeting the council approved a request from Main Street to post signage on September 28 and to hold a downtown event on October 5 after a motion and second; members voted "Aye." Councilors briefly discussed scheduling conflicts with other events but moved forward with the permit.
Green identified herself as the executive director; no funding sources for the events were stated in the meeting record and the city did not announce event vendors or a detailed schedule during the session.
