The Oak Harbor City Council unanimously approved the consent agenda and later voted to reappoint three individuals to the Parks & Recreation Commission on Feb. 3.
Councilor Peterson moved to appoint Tallow, Jones and Biggs to positions 3, 5 and 7 on the Parks and Recreation Board; the motion was seconded and passed without opposition.
Councilor Brian Stuckey asked staff to confirm whether any of the reappointment appointees would fall under the newly adopted nepotism clause and raised concerns about volunteer morale and a lack of communication to appointees when appointments are delayed. Staff (Sabrina, on the line) said she would look into the specific communications to the volunteers and that the mayor has directed staff to improve outreach and appreciation efforts.
The council noted staff has already increased communications about board and commission movements in recent months and agreed staff would follow up with affected volunteers.
