Oak Harbor fire chief: new station on track, staffing planned for June 1

The Oak Harbor Fire Chief told the council on Feb. 3 that the new fire station is on track and on budget, with a projected turnover to the city in mid-March and internal work to follow.
"The station is on track, on budget, set to be completed mid-March," the chief said, outlining a roughly month- or two-long turnover period during which the city will perform its own work before occupancy. The chief said an academy in partnership with South Whidbey will begin March 23, with recruits scheduled to graduate toward May and the plan is to staff the station by June 1.
The chief also reported that a new ladder truck and engine have arrived in Washington, will be inspected and outfitted in Tacoma, and are expected in service in about eight weeks after inspections and training.
The update addressed timeline and staffing plans; no new budget figures or policy decisions were proposed during the update.
