Aurora committee backs pilot to provide free internet to Habitat subdivision after debate

The Aurora Finance Committee on Dec. 11 recommended approval of a resolution to authorize city-paid Internet service for a 17-home Habitat for Humanity subdivision as part of a multi-year pilot and study.
Deputy CIO Jeff Anderson told the committee the arrangement would provide “two years of guaranteed Internet” from Online Aurora so the technology partner can test smart-home energy controls and measure usage. He said the resident households “will not pay for the study portion” during that study window, and that at the end of the period homeowners would be free to select another provider.
