Stark County Emergency Management will host a Teague's-facilitated hazmat workshop with EOC activation; the county will pay about $11,000 from its training budget after a $25,000 grant and $9,000 LEPC contribution were secured.
Stark County commissioners on Feb. 3 approved a full-scale hazmat workshop and EOC exercise proposed by Emergency Manager Elena Scott.
Scott told commissioners the Teague's-designed exercise will test EOC activation and response and produce an after-action improvement plan. "They're gonna host the incident, the workshop, and then we're gonna do the hot wash and the after-action report," Scott said. She said a $25,000 cost-share grant and $9,000 in LEPC funds reduce the county's share to roughly $11,000, which will come from the emergency-management training budget.
Commissioner Claris moved to approve the training for Stark County Emergency Management; a roll-call vote recorded ayes and the motion carried.
Why it matters: The workshop is intended to assess county readiness for hazardous-material incidents, refresh ICS knowledge among responders and produce an action plan to address gaps. The county will not use general fund dollars for the exercise, Scott said; the expense will be covered by grant and the emergency-management training budget.
