Jane Addams student council showcases fundraisers and community service at board meeting

"My name is Izzy, and my favorite thing about student council is buying and supporting our school," one student said. Council activities include selling candy-cane grams (more than 1,000 sold annually at Jane Adams), a snow-cone operation financed by a school-owned snow-cone machine, and an Artathon event judged anonymously by number.
Students and staff said funds have paid for classroom resources and equipment: new drinking fountains, Scholastic News subscriptions, eclipse glasses and gym equipment. The council also described community service projects: members shop for families in need using lists from school staff and wrap gifts for distribution.
Board members asked how the council reaches decisions; students said they break into small groups to develop ideas and then vote. The presentation closed with thanks from school staff and an invitation for the authors of a student-run Book Buddies club to appear before the board at a later date.
The presentation was received with appreciation from board members and attendees; no formal board action was required following the student council report.
