Crown Point swears in new firefighter and police officer

The Crown Point Board of Public Works and Safety swore in a new firefighter and a new police officer at its Feb. 4 meeting, Mayor Land said, marking staffing additions for the city’s public-safety teams.
Fire Chief introduced firefighter Zachary Recetti, noting Recetti’s six years with the Illinois Army National Guard, prior part‑time firefighting and EMT work in Illinois and a bachelor of science degree from Indiana University East. Recetti took the oath and said, “I shall serve and protect the citizens of Crown Point,” and thanked family and department leadership for the opportunity.
Police presenters welcomed Officer Zachary Buss, who was described as a Lowell, Indiana, native, a 2018 Lowell High School graduate and a member of the 2023 class of the Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Buss recited the law‑enforcement oath and received badge 136.
The oath ceremonies included brief remarks of support from department leaders and the mayor and concluded with badge presentations and group photographs.
The board did not take further action related to the swearing‑in beyond the ceremonial presentations. The next Board of Works meeting is scheduled for Feb. 18.
