Springfield to launch minority business institute with city partners

Director Posey told the council the Springfield Minority Business Institute will kick off the next evening at 6:30 p.m. with 29 minority business owners and nonprofit organizers registered and a waiting list forming. The city capped the session near 30 attendees and said partners including the Small Business Development Center, Innovate Springfield and the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) will present.
Posey said the city prepared handouts and an extensive presentation covering grants, available city resources, and workshops by four division leaders from the Office of Community Relations, and that the program could be repeated later in the year if demand continues.
Council members praised the outreach and encouraged prospective attendees to contact the Office of Community Relations or the program coordinator to join future sessions.
