Nashua ZBA grants variance for backyard shed at 12 Waltham Drive

The Nashua Zoning Board of Adjustment on Jan. 12 approved a variance letting Christopher DeLucia place an 8-by-10 shed within the 6-foot rear-yard setback at 12 Waltham Drive.
DeLucia told the board he and his family lack outdoor storage and that many neighboring lots abutting Greenwood Park already have sheds close to the fence line. "I'm really just looking to have a variance so that I can be... the same that... opportunity that you've allowed my neighbors," he said.
Board members described the request as straightforward. Member Robert Shaw said the shed is "very consistent with the neighborhood" and that it abuts only the public park, which reduces impacts on private properties. Member 'Mister Lanow' moved to approve the variance; JP Boucher seconded and the board granted the request. Chair Jaylen Cara reminded DeLucia there is a 30-day appeal window.
The board's findings, as read into the record, said the variance would not be contrary to the public interest, would observe the spirit of the ordinance, would do substantial justice to the applicant and would not diminish surrounding property values given the property's small lot and the fence backing to a public park.
