Senator Roberts, sponsor of the resolution, read the measure and praised the state'019s training facilities and communities, calling Colorado a leader in winter sports and urging colleagues and residents to cheer for the athletes as they represent the state and the United States. "I'm especially proud ... Steamboat Springs has produced more Olympians than any town in our country," Roberts said, and urged support for Team USA.
Senator Paul delivered a personal tribute on the floor to his father, Rick Ball, who he described as captain of the 1972 U.S. Olympic cycling team in Munich: "...a wonderful resident of Senate District 31, the captain of the 1972 United States cycling Olympic team in Munich, my dad, Rick Ball." Paul recounted Ball'019s background and presented it as an example of Colorado'019s athletic heritage.
