The Conway City Planning Commission on a voice vote approved a conditional use permit for Compass Academy, a proposed private K–12 school at 225 Tilk Road, and amended the permit to allow operations through 9 p.m. on weekdays. Staff recommended nine conditions for the I3‑zoned site and presented the building as an existing 20,993‑square‑foot structure in the Old Industrial Airport Park area.
Lauren, the city planner presenting the item, told commissioners the site sits on 2.62 acres and that the applicant proposed an initial enrollment of about 127 students with potential growth to 250, which staff estimated could generate up to about 620 vehicle trips per day at higher enrollment levels. She also said the I3 zone permits a school facility with a conditional use permit and that staff proposed nine conditions to address operations and site requirements.
Applicant representatives Richard Henley and Steven Hayes told the commission the building would be renovated to provide 16 classrooms and that they expect routine hours but would occasionally hold after‑hours events. "Like any school, we will occasionally have an evening event," Richard Henley said, adding such events would be infrequent. The applicants described a two‑driveway circulation plan intended to keep vehicle queuing inside the site rather than on Tilk Road.
A commissioner moved to amend condition number 1 to allow hours through 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; the motion passed by voice vote. The commission then approved the CUP with the packet's nine conditions, including the amended hours.
Staff notified the commission that the Compass Academy item would be advanced to the Conway City Council and is scheduled to be heard at the Council meeting the following night.
The Planning Commission record does not include a roll‑call tally for the voice votes; the meeting minutes should record the final vote count when available. The CUP approval advances the project to the City Council review stage.
