Council authorizes audiovisual and security technology contracts for new police station

Mark Barham described the AV contract with VICOM (via a cooperative contract) for a video wall and routing systems to serve the community room and training spaces, priced not to exceed $280,349.08. Staff said the AV package will enable in-house trainings and interactive community meetings. Later, staff requested authorization to contract with Mid Atlantic Technology Services for access control, CCTV and interview-room technology (priced not to exceed $310,691.50); staff explained the cameras will operate 24/7 and connect to the real-time crime center and that interview rooms require specific technology for operations.
Council members asked about cost comparisons to the fire station installation and were told the AV scope differs from the fire station emergency operations center; staff credited due diligence by staff to obtain competitive pricing. Both authorizations passed on unanimous votes; staff said expenditures are within the CIP and no additional appropriation is required.
