Alexander County approves $58,500 incentive to help Jonathan Wesley Furniture expand, promises 30 new jobs

Alexander County commissioners voted unanimously in February 2026 to award a Level 1 economic development incentive grant of up to $58,500 to Jonathan Wesley Furniture LLC to support the company’s planned relocation and expansion in Taylorsville. County economic development director Michael Worley told the board the project would move the company from its current 20,000-square-foot facility at 5941 Rink Dam Road to a 46,000-square-foot site at 2696 NC-16, representing roughly $3,000,000 in acquisition and capital investment.
Worley said the expansion is expected to retain about 10 existing jobs and create approximately 30 new positions over the five-year grant period. The grant is structured as real and personal property tax incentives capped at $58,500 to be paid in up to five annual installments based on the property’s appraised value and the company’s timely payment of yearly taxes.
During the public hearing, Commissioner Ronnie Reese praised the county’s economic development efforts and endorsed the request as an example of how local jobs are created. “This is how it’s done,” Reese said.
The board opened and closed the public hearing, then moved and seconded approval; the motion carried unanimously by raised hands. Chairman Yoder thanked county staff and the economic development office for bringing the prospect to the county and said the project was a positive sign for local business retention and growth.
The incentive agreement was authorized for signature by the chairman, and county staff said the company’s partners were unable to attend the meeting due to a family bereavement.
