Romaine told the board that Edelstein began teaching in 1972 and served until 2005 and that she later helped found the Brentwood Historical Society in 2012 and served on the library board. "I'm here not only to honor Ellen, but to say thank you to our school board," Romaine said, noting her work with the library, historical society and the schools.
Edelstein accepted the recognition and thanked the board and community for their support, calling the district and its residents "a wonderful village to be part of." The proclamation was delivered as part of a series of three presentations at the workshop.
The board paused its regular business to hear the recognition and then moved on to scheduled presentations on the district's strategic plan and food service updates. No formal board action was associated with the proclamation.
