Dan, a Dallas Stars representative, told the NorthlakeTown Council on Dec. 11 that construction at the Northlake MultiSport (branded in presentation as the Star Center) is advancing and the team is targeting opening the weekend of April 4. "Right now, we're currently looking to open the doors the weekend of April 4," he said.
The presentation described finished major systems (roof and ice plant installation nearing completion), incoming interior construction (court hardwoods and curtain walls), and tenants: a concession plan for the Shark Club with the concession stand planned for the grand-opening weekend and the full restaurant opening later in the summer, and a pending contract with the Andrews Institute for a planned sports medicine presence. Dan noted each rink contains roughly 12 miles of one-inch piping and outlined a rolling timeline for systems commissioning and acclimatization.
Why it matters: the facility is both an economic asset and a community resource. Staff and the Stars team proposed two no-cost town-use days per year under the lease, and a broader "Community Health Days" concept that would open rinks and courts for free programming, clinics, senior-wellness hours, pick-up pickleball, free skate rentals, and health-screening booths. Dan said the team has begun school outreach (three elementary visits so far) and is building a marketing list for residents interested in programming.
Councilors responded positively to the community focus. Several asked about grand-opening timing and activation; Dan said the team expects to finalize a ribbon-cutting date soon and flagged several possible activation ideas, including exhibition games with local high schools and community naming opportunities for courts or rinks.
What comes next: staff and the Stars organization will finalize the grand-opening date and logistics, coordinate tenant construction schedules, and continue resident outreach. The council did not take formal action on the presentation but received the briefing and invited follow-up details for the spring opening.
