"Illinois State School Code requires that if you are going to charge more than $250 for students to take driver's education, the board has to approve a waiver," an administrator said during the presentation, adding the waiver would be valid for five years.
Board questions focused on program capacity, scheduling and cost comparisons to private instruction. Staff said the in-district program is popular, offered every quarter and often full; private lessons can cost considerably more. After closing the public hearing, the board later approved (during consent/roll-call votes) the waiver resolution authorizing the five-year fee schedule.
Outcome and next step: The waiver was approved on roll call. Administration said they will implement the proposed multi-year fee schedule and will present the fee schedule and any operational adjustments to the board as needed.
