Commissioners approve three on-call engineering support agreements capped at $20,000 each

County engineering staff asked the commission to approve three on-call engineering support service agreements and the board approved the package.
Nate said the agreements—submitted by Engineering Resources Inc., Butler, Fairmont & Seifert Veil Engineering, and Jansen & Spahn Engineering—are intended to provide plan review, design assistance and miscellaneous project support during 2025. Each agreement was presented as not-to-exceed $20,000 for the year, billed at each firm’s hourly rate schedule. Nate said the firms would be used as-needed for tasks such as design review on bridge joint repairs, rigid deck overlays and partial deck patching; if work would exceed the $20,000 cap the county would require supplemental authorization.
A commissioner asked whether the contracts are evergreen; staff answered they are on-call assignments and would be capped as presented, requiring additional approvals for work beyond contract caps. Commissioners moved to approve all three agreements together and the motion carried.
Staff said the program had been used in 2024 for project review (Bridge 40, 44 and 132) and that the county does not expect to exhaust the three contracts under the current scope.
