Adams County staff report Bridge 58 passed concrete strength tests; paving expected and short closures planned for approach work
Summary
County engineer Nate reported Bridge 58’s concrete test cylinders exceeded required strength and contractor Brooks is expected to pave; approach work on Bridal 150 will require a 2–3 day closure to protect horse-drawn and vehicle traffic.

County engineering staff updated commissioners on progress at Bridge 58 (at 0500 North just east of 400 West) and planned approach work requiring short-duration closures.
Nate provided test results showing concrete test cylinders from the bridge deck exceeded the required strength curve by about 600 psi during recent compressive testing, and indicated he will obtain formal lab reports to document results. Staff said contractor Brooks was expected to be on-site to pave when weather cleared; once shoulder work is completed and barricades are removed the bridge should reopen and staff will notify local residents by email.
Nate also reported that Pioneer Associates will begin approach work at Bridal 150 (near 1050 Southeast of Geneva). The approach construction requires core cuts and inspection holes—about 6-inch diameter cylinders—to verify subgrade filling under the approach slab. Because temporary covers over those holes could create slip or bump hazards for horse-drawn traffic, staff said the road will be fully closed during the 2–3 day operation (targeting a Wednesday start around 09:00 and reopening by Friday). Commissioners were told the work is intended to be completed before bus operations resume Friday.
Staff offered to arrange for third-party testing if commissioners had concerns about test integrity, noting that would be an additional cost. The update closed with staff saying they would email stakeholders when barriers are removed and the road is reopened.
