Senator Powers moved adoption of the consent calendar of memorializing and congratulatory resolutions. The calendar passed with 32 ayes and no nays on a recorded voice vote; the motion to reconsider was tabled without objection. Items called out during the consent calendar included a resolution to honor NASHVILLE SC for winning the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Earlier on the floor, the Senate suspended rules for immediate consideration and adopted Senate Joint Resolution 665 honoring former Senator Jim Tracy. Senator Reeves said members would be added as co‑sponsors and that the body hoped to invite Tracy for a floor recognition in coming weeks. Later, the Senate also suspended rules and adopted Senate Resolution 291 honoring U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters as the keynote speaker at the NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet.
Committee chairs used the floor to announce schedules and deadlines. Chairman Watson noted that agencies’ submissions for the 2026 Senate budget were due that day by 2 p.m.; staff will distribute committee answers the next day and budget hearings will begin next week. Chairman Massey reminded members of a two‑week deadline (Feb. 20) for omnibus license plate, bridge and road‑naming amendments and gave a staff contact for questions.
Leader Johnson moved that the Senate stand adjourned until 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2026; the motion carried and the Senate adjourned.
