Board grants two elective facial cosmetic surgery permits with limits

The Dental Board approved two elective facial cosmetic surgery (EFCS) permit recommendations on Nov. 7 after the EFCS Credentialing Committee’s Oct. 23 review.
Jodi Ortiz, chief of licensing and examination, summarized the committee’s recommendations: the first applicant (identified by initials in the public materials) was recommended for limited Category 2 privileges for Botox, fillers, blepharoplasty, chemical peels, liposuction and facial skin resurfacing; the second applicant was recommended for unlimited Category 1 privileges and Category 2 privileges limited to exclude rhinoplasty (facial osteocartilaginous procedures).
Dr. Chan moved to grant the first applicant the limited Category 2 EFCS permit and a board member seconded; the board recorded a roll‑call vote and approved the motion. The board then moved, seconded and approved the second committee recommendation in the same fashion. No adverse public comments were recorded during the motions.
Board counsel explained applicants are referenced by initials in public materials to protect application privacy until a permit is issued, which is consistent with the board’s practice for pending permits.
