Yuma Union High outlines two-week summer credit-recovery program using Edgenuity

Corey Semler, the district’s executive director of teaching and learning, told the board the district’s summer learning offering is designed expressly for credit recovery and to help students get back on track toward graduation.
"This program is designed with a very clear purpose and focus in mind, which is credit recovery," Semler said. Instruction will be delivered via the Edgenuity online platform while certified teachers will be present in classrooms to guide and unlock assessments. Semler emphasized that, while district-issued devices may go home with students to maximize learning time, tests must be unlocked by the certified teacher and taken on campus.
Semler explained that students who do not recover all credits during the two-week program will still have options: juniors and underclassmen can enroll in academy courses during the regular year or take Edgenuity coursework a la carte alongside their regular schedules. He also said Vista campus hours differ slightly and that there is a wait list for registration; counselors and administrators can direct families to available openings.
Board members asked about outcomes for students who do not pass summer assessments and about transportation and site availability; Semler reiterated testing safeguards and options for continued credit recovery during the school year. The presentation closed with an invitation to students and families to contact counselors if they wish to join the wait list.
