Roads staff asked commissioners for authorization to solicit bids for a new distributor to replace an aging unit and for equipment to outfit an existing chassis. Staff estimated a distributor with new chassis and technology would cost around $420,000 and said the county has budgeted for equipment purchases in 2025.
Commissioners also approved going to bid for equipment to outfit a tandem-axle dump truck. Staff said a prior chassis build had cost about $170,000 and that the county is trying to get ahead of long lead times and manufacturing delays. "We were able to get the chassis sitting there from what you guys have approved... I'm hoping that it absorbs the price of inflation," a roads presenter said.
The board approved the bid solicitations by motion and recognized that using restricted MBH funds for dedicated road equipment may be allowable when the equipment is dedicated to road work. No final purchase contracts or trade-in values were discussed; staff said any trade-in would be handled as part of the acquisition process.
