County IT/provider reports recent antivirus compromise; recommends Huntress enrollment

An IT provider told the Iroquois County Finance/IT/Tax Committee about a recent antivirus/endpoint incident that was isolated before it spread to the network.
"A file was downloaded on your network that was not what it appeared to be," Speaker 3 said, describing how staff unplugged the affected machine, isolated it from the network and cleaned it so it could be returned to service. The provider recommended that sites enroll in the monitoring or insurance application (Huntress) the county is offering; Speaker 3 noted that cyber insurance is a volatile market and that consolidation among vendors is occurring.
Committee members reported difficulty opening an emailed Huntress report and discussed possible network restrictions blocking their access. The provider said the county should complete the enrollment application because doing so "will likely save you some billion dollars," an exaggeration in phrasing used in the meeting; the committee recorded the incident as contained and planned to follow up on enrollment and report access issues.
Next steps: staff to resolve access to the Huntress report, and the committee to consider Huntress enrollment and upcoming cyber-policy discussions slated for summer months.
