The Iroquois County clerk told the committee that vote-by-mail logistics require voters to mail ballots well before election day to ensure they receive a processing postmark.
Speaker 5 explained that ballots mailed from local post offices must travel to Champaign to be postmarked and that local pick-up schedules can delay the postmarking step. "We want your vote to count. Please make sure your ballot is postmarked no later than election day," Speaker 5 said, adding, "We recommend doing this no later than 03/10/2026." The clerk said early voting is scheduled to begin Feb. 5 and that vote-by-mail ballots will be mailed as soon as certification issues are resolved.
The clerk said the office will insert a blue reminder inside vote-by-mail packets explaining the postmark guidance and will issue press releases and radio notices to encourage early mailing or hand‑delivery to a local post office for a clerk-applied handstamp when necessary.
Next steps: clerk's office to send vote-by-mail packets with the blue reminder and to issue public notices about the recommended mailing timeline.
