Council fails to reappoint two planning commissioners after split roll call, will advertise openings

One council member emphasized consistency and public notice for future recruitment while others favored immediate reappointment to avoid gaps in commission service.
A motion to reappoint Marco Pinson Garcia and Veronica Sabala (and others mentioned) was made, seconded and taken to a roll-call vote. During the recorded roll call, Council member Maria Cecilia Cruz voted "Nay" while other members voted in favor; the chair reported the motion dies. The city will advertise the vacancies, accept applications and return the item for council consideration at a subsequent meeting; the incumbent commissioners will continue to serve until the council either reappoints or replaces them.
