Iroquois County committee hears expanded child psychiatry availability, schedules vaccine clinics

Committee members heard agency updates on expanded psychiatric services for children and county public-health outreach at the Feb. 3 Iroquois County Health Committee meeting.
Amy reported the agency increased psychiatry availability, adding psychiatric nurse practitioner Carrie Greenlee. "We went from 4 days a month to 8 days a month, with our current provider," Amy said, and she said the provider currently sees children down to age 12; with additional training the practitioner could see younger children in the future. Amy clarified that psychiatry services are available to the agency's clients rather than the general public.
Robin from the public health department outlined recent outreach: distribution of radon kits, library Narcan trainings required by the state, and planned after-hours vaccine clinics on Thursday, Feb. 26 (4:30–6:00 p.m.) and Saturday, March 14 (8:00–10:00 a.m.). She also reported that 207 seniors are currently receiving county services.
The committee requested that staff notify school counselors when child psychiatry access expands and urged coordination with workforce partners to provide necessary clinical training. Members also encouraged public-health education through social media to promote vaccine clinics and clarify available services.
No formal changes to public-health policy were adopted at the meeting; staff were asked to publicize clinic dates and to coordinate referrals for the expanded psychiatry service.
