Crosby Township Kringle Chest expands to help 35 children; Fort Scott Turkey Trot donates $1,100

Brenda Jackson, speaking for township senior and community activities, told trustees the Crosby Township Kringle Chest children’s benefit has grown this year and now will assist 35 children identified through Crosby School and local counselors. "This fund is supported by the generous local businesses and companies in our area, and it truly is a gift to Crosby Children," Jackson said.
Jackson described senior activities and upcoming events — including a Christmas luncheon and a brass-ensemble concert Dec. 16 — and said volunteer shoppers and teachers are helping supply gifts and seasonal food support for families in need. She credited a grant from Nutrien (formerly Potash) and local churches and businesses for financial and in-kind contributions.
Earlier in the meeting Rebecca Schafer of Fort Scott presented a check from the Fort Scott Turkey Trot and reported turnout: "We had 42 for the 5K and then 18 for the little kids," she said, noting the event’s proceeds were directed to the Kringle Chest and that it raised $1,100 this year.
Jackson asked residents to watch for donation and wrapping events; volunteers will meet at the community center for a wrapping party on Dec. 18. The trustees acknowledged the community effort and welcomed newly appointed trustee Doug Lohman, who was introduced at the meeting.
