Mt. Healthy Board approves early learning center moves, grants, contracts and a grading policy change

At its meeting, the Mount Healthy Board of Education received an update on the district’s new early learning center and approved a series of routine contracts and administrative changes.
Superintendent Doctor Hawkins reported that the early learning center passed its electrical inspection and district staff will complete punch-list items before moving in. "We will receive the keys," Hawkins said, and the superintendent said students are expected to report on the 25th. Hawkins said a grand-opening date will be set before Christmas.
The board accepted several grants and donations reported by staff: an American Rescue Plan (ARP) homeless funding award of $89,057.79; an Emergency Connectivity Fund award from the Federal Communications Commission to reimburse the district for pandemic-related computer purchases (amount as stated in the public record was unclear); and a $11,500 donation through a partnership with Good Sports/Let’s Play and Keurig Dr Pepper for sports equipment.
On facilities and services, the board approved a contract with Structure and Design LLC to remove the first-floor ceiling system tied to HVAC upgrades (work to be paid with ESSER funds), following confirmation that no asbestos remains on the affected floors. It also approved a $62,487.50 contract with Graham Reed Lock and Key LLC to rekey the junior–senior high building so the district can track master keys and improve security. The board approved a $99,000 custodial-services contract with Scarlet and Grama for the early learning center; the superintendent said that contract was added to an existing district arrangement rather than rebid.
Finally, the board voted to change administrative guideline language for board policy 5420 to require alpha grades (A–F) be entered into the district’s online reporting system (ProgressBook) while allowing teachers to continue using points or percentages on assignments before conversion. The conversion chart and weightings were restated; the change was noted as taking effect immediately for ProgressBook displays, with a correction noted for the B range.
Most items were approved by roll-call votes with routine approval tallies recorded during the meeting. The board adopted a consent agenda to bundle multiple routine approvals and adjourned after setting the next meeting for Nov. 15 at 6 p.m.
