Two scholarship recipients who were present—Asia Ramos (identified in the record as the Helios Ready Now Yuma recipient from COFA/Copa High School) and Leonard Wallstrom (a recipient from Yuma High School)—addressed the board. Asia Ramos said the award was “life changing” and relieved her family’s financial concerns about attending college. “It’s a blessing, and it’s a huge weight off of my shoulders to be able to pursue college…with little to no worries when it comes to finance,” she said. Leonard Wallstrom told the board the scholarship will help him avoid college debt and expressed gratitude for the support.
District staff said the local Helios program has recognized 42 students over seven years and described the Ready Now Yuma award as part of Helios’ broader efforts to increase post‑secondary attainment. The presentation emphasized outreach materials and video profiles that the district has posted to its website.
