CAVE CREEK, Ariz. — Town staff reported a major water‑system disruption that affected about 100 homes on the west side of Cave Creek Wash. The outage began around 10:30 a.m. the previous Thursday, officials said.
According to the town manager, monitoring systems at booster sites recorded a pressure reading near 50 psi and a spike in flow from the Neri booster station into Zone 4. Staff traced the cause to a failed control line on an 8‑inch pressure‑reducing valve (PRV) at the west side of Cave Creek Road at Canyon Ridge Drive; the broken control line left the PRV stuck open, allowing an uncontrolled pressure surge that caused three main‑line breaks (at 32nd north of Cloud Road, 36th north of Carefree Highway, and Cloud Road east of 34th Street).
Public works and wastewater crews worked through the evening to isolate the PRV and complete three separate main‑line repairs. Water service was restored by about 9:30–10:00 p.m., the manager said. Town staff noted that the broken pipes sat on rocky bedding in the trench, which over time contributed to vibration and weakening that made the pipes vulnerable to pressure spikes.
The town manager praised public‑works and wastewater staff for their rapid response and said the outage highlights the need for continued monitoring and maintenance.
