Committee sends water-wise landscaping bill forward for state facilities only

Senator Stratton presented Senate Bill 46, saying the measure creates definitions and technical changes to promote water-wise landscaping for state facilities and to model best practices for the rest of the state. "This is intended for the state and the state facilities to be the model example," he said, and clarified the bill applies to state-owned facilities and new buildings only.
Committee members asked whether the requirement applied only to new construction; Stratton confirmed it would not require retrofits on older buildings. There was no public testimony against the bill. Representative Covert moved a favorable recommendation; the committee adopted the motion and passed SB 46 out by voice vote.
