Family Days commission proposes larger 2026 budget, names Judy Guder parade marshal

Malcolm Brumm, management analyst for public works and engineering, told trustees the commission reviewed 2025 finances and recommended a total 2026 expense budget of $138,350, projected revenues of $41,400 and a resulting net cost to the village of $96,950 (compared with a net cost of $88,352 in 2025). Brumm said rising vendor costs are responsible for the increase and identified two notable line-item increases: fireworks proposed to rise from $36,500 to $40,000 and parade costs proposed to rise from $20,000 to $30,000.
The commission plans to continue a two-day band format on July 3 to encourage earlier attendance; the opening act was described as a Taylor Swift cover band. Staff said they are pursuing expanded sponsorships to offset costs and strengthen long-term sustainability.
Before discussion concluded the board formally recognized Judy Guder for years of service to Family Days and named her the 2026 parade marshal. Guder thanked volunteers and described her long history of community involvement.
