Plan Commission OKs minor modification to Verizon equipment at St. Stephen site

The Village of Greendale Plan Commission recommended approval for a modification to an existing wireless facility at 6101 South 51st Street, authorizing additional Verizon Wireless equipment on the site, staff said.
Planning staff explained that Concordia Wireless, as agent for Verizon Wireless, proposed to add an antenna, a backup generator and related cabling within the facility’s existing 60-by-60 leased pad on property owned by St. Stephen the Martyr Lutheran Church. Staff concluded the changes were not substantial and therefore do not require a public hearing under the village zoning code, but recommended review and approval by the village attorney to ensure compliance with Wisconsin statutes.
Commissioners asked about the generator’s location and weekly test runs; staff confirmed the equipment will remain within the existing fenced pad and showed that the area is mainly surrounded by green space. A commissioner noted the pad sits away from houses and that test runs can be scheduled to limit neighborhood disturbance.
The commission voted to approve the modification and forward the matter for the attorney’s review and ordinance compliance checks.
