The Murfreesboro Planning Commission on Feb. 4 voted unanimously to forward a mandatory referral to the City Council that would abandon a small portion of Airport Road right‑of‑way at Airport Road and Memorial Boulevard so the City of Murfreesboro Municipal Airport can erect a directional sign.
City staff, represented at the meeting by Mr. Anthony, said utility providers and internal departments reviewed the request and generally raised no objections, though some will require easements in the area. "The purpose of this mandatory referral is so that the airport can erect a sign, directing people to the airport on this area," Mr. Anthony said. Staff recommended forwarding approval to the council subject to addressing staff comments and any required easements.
The commission opened the public hearing; no members of the public spoke. After a motion and second, the commission took roll call and recorded unanimous approval from present members. The matter now moves to the City Council for final action and any conditions staff identified during review.
No additional conditions or changes to city code were enacted by the Planning Commission; the commission’s action was a recommendation to the City Council. The council will consider staff comments, required easements and any further legal review in its decision.
