Fire chief reports busy period, announces awards banquet and raffle fundraiser

Torrington — Fire Chief Luis Correa told the council the department has responded to eight calls since the last meeting, including multiple calls on a single day and a structure fire on the 1700 block of West E.
"We've been fairly busy since the last time we met. We had a total of eight- 8 calls since the last time, 5 of which were, on the same day," Correa said. He recounted responses including a water-line-related fire alarm at Evergreen, a residence rekindled by discarded ashes on Rio Vista, a gas-smell investigation at Eastern Wyoming College handled by Black Hills Energy, a structure fire on West E and a chicken coop fire on Road 66.
Correa also previewed the department's calendar: an awards banquet scheduled for Feb. 21 and the department's annual fundraiser, a 'gun-a-month' raffle with $50 tickets, 500 tickets to be sold and 12 drawings beginning April 1. He said tickets can be obtained from department members.
