Hialeah council confirms three appointments, approves consent agenda

The Hialeah City Council on Feb. 3 confirmed three appointments and approved its consent agenda.

A resolution appointing Abdel Jimenez to the Hialeah Housing Authority for a four‑year term beginning Feb. 3, 2026, and ending Feb. 2, 2030, passed on a roll call vote after a council member described Jimenez as “an attorney” with prior planning and zoning service. The motion to appoint Jimenez was made by Councilman Luis Gonzales and seconded by Councilwoman Jalene Perez; the clerk called the roll and the motion carried.

The council also approved a resolution appointing Luis Gonzales (a different appointment) to the oversight committee for the City of Hialeah elected officers retirement trust for a two‑year term. That motion was made by Councilman Luis Rodriguez and seconded by Councilman William Marrero; the motion carried on roll call.

Separately, the council approved a resolution to appoint Jose Torres as an interim chief‑of‑staff‑type appointee to a city committee to fill vacancies left by the prior administration. Council members noted the positions are unpaid and are intended as collateral duties; the motion was moved by Councilwoman Jalene Perez and seconded by Council Vice President Melinda de la Vega and carried on roll call.

The council then approved the consent agenda in a single roll call vote. The meeting record shows no public opposition during the vote.

During public comment before the votes, resident Maria Nieto urged the council to help tenants of a six‑building, 132‑unit complex who she said have been asked to make a payment and whose requested meetings with management had not occurred. The council did not take formal action on that complaint at the meeting.
