Board approves additional funding for hair-care distributor’s build-out; CRA total contribution reaches $124,900

The Fort Lauderdale CRA advisory board approved an additional funding request to finish build-out of Pleasant Image Distributing, which does business as Nefertiti Secrets, a distributor of natural hair-care products.
CRA staff reported the applicant requested $26,800 to complete equipment, shelving and furnishings. Staff said the business previously received $98,100 via administrative approval in February 2024 and that total project costs have risen from $109,100 to $139,000 because of increased construction and materials costs. If approved, staff said the CRA’s cumulative contribution would be $124,900.
An applicant in the record described herself as a cancer survivor who developed the hair-care line during treatment and said the planned distribution center will include a demonstration salon, community engagement space and workforce training. She told the board the expansion aims to create jobs and deliver local education and retail opportunities.
Staff recommended approving the requested increase. The board moved to approve the funding request and the motion carried on an affirmative voice/roll call; staff recorded members saying "aye." Staff noted equipment will be secured by a UCC filing and a personal guarantee from Panchita Pleasant, who staff said was present.
