Beaufort County announces free electronics recycling event, veterans seminars and Frog Fest update

Beaufort County announced several community events in a BCTV news bulletin: a free electronics recycling event for county residents on Saturday, Feb. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at River Ridge Academy in Bluffton; eight life-planning seminars for veterans and families to be held at multiple county locations (including a February session at the Burton Wells Center, 1 Middleton Recreation Drive in Beaufort at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.); and an update on the county's first annual Frog Fest and the Flying Frog 5K/10K fun run.

The bulletin listed acceptable recycling items as personal computers, laptops, CRT and LCD monitors, CRT and non-CRT televisions, printers, hard drives and miscellaneous electronics such as cell phones, tablets and fax machines. Not acceptable were microwaves, vacuums, stereos, speakers, tuners, VCRs, DVDs and lamps. Participants were asked to remain in their cars and to enter the site via Hampton Parkway to Raider Drive. The county directed residents to beaufortcountysc.gov/recycled for more information.

On veterans services, the bulletin said Veterans Affairs counselors are available by appointment at (843) 255-6880 and that RSVPs are required for the life-planning seminars; the county provided a contact name, Crystal, and the same phone number for reservations. BCTV said it covered a recent Veterans Affairs symposium for health care and social work professionals, and an unidentified speaker at that event urged veterans to pursue earned benefits: "When a man or woman puts on a uniform to defend this great nation, it takes the entire family ... If something happens to you as a result of that service, you have benefits that are due to you, your family, survivor benefits," the speaker said.
