Anacortes council approves two portable generator purchases for wastewater system

Anacortes City Council approved two contract awards on Feb. 2 to replace portable generators that serve the wastewater treatment plant and multiple sewer lift stations.
Public works staff presented the purchases: a 70 kilowatt portable generator (contract number listed in the packet as 26048ERR001) and a 100 kilowatt portable generator (2605OERR001). Staff said the replacement units will serve as backup power for roughly 10 pump stations that currently lack their own stationary backup and that replacing the fleet reduces the number of portable units overall by three because one pump station already received a stationary generator.
"We have one 100 kW portable generator and one 70 kW portable generator. These will be replacing generators we currently own for the sewer treatment plant and various pump stations around town," said the presenting staff member (identified in the packet). Council member Grama explained the reason for two sizes: "You want to pair the amount of kilowatts to the whatever we're connecting... different size pumps at different stations," he said, noting the need to match load to power source.
Council moved and seconded the two contract awards separately; both passed by voice vote. Staff said funding comes from the replacement fund and that the annual replacement program will replenish the fund over time.
