Rice Lake board approves routine business, selects LBHB architect and sets 2025–26 health premiums

The Rice Lake Area School District Board of Education approved a series of routine and fiscal items Monday during its regular meeting.
By voice vote the board approved the April 28 meeting minutes and the consent agenda, which included the monthly budget, board bills, four staff resignations and seven employment recommendations. The board also moved to table an OPEB trust officer action item at the committee’s request.
The finance committee recommended LBHB as architect for the district’s child care project; the board moved, seconded and approved the selection. Committee members said LBHB was chosen because of prior childcare construction experience with the district and the firm’s relevant project history.
On employee benefits, the finance committee recommended and the board approved premium rates for the 2025–26 plan year: $900 per month for single coverage and $2,100 per month for family coverage. The committee reported employee contribution rates would remain at the 2024–25 level and that the medical travel stipend would be eliminated “in lieu of an employee contribution increase.” One board member registered an abstention in the recorded discussion before the voice vote.
The board conducted second readings and approved a packet of district policies covering administration goals, recruitment and hiring of administrative staff, administrator development and evaluation, the district administrator role, a professional therapy dogs policy, and student nondiscrimination and related rules and exhibits.
Other approved items included the Rice Lake High School student informational booklet and the Board of Education meeting schedule for the 2025–26 year.
No citizen speakers were signed up for public comment and the meeting adjourned after district administrator remarks.
