Mayor proclaims SkillsUSA Week as CVCC receives recognition

Mayor Hank Guest read a proclamation declaring Feb. 2–6, 2026 as SkillsUSA Week in the City of Hickory and recognized Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) and the SkillsUSA program for contributions to career and technical education.
Tammy Mueller, introduced by the mayor as the executive director for strategic business partnerships with SkillsUSA, and Gary Mueller, executive dean of economic development and corporate education at CVCC, accepted the recognition. Tammy Mueller said the recognition validates CVCC’s work to prepare students with technical and workplace skills and thanked the city for continued partnership.
The council briefly praised the long-standing relationship between CVCC and the city.
